A Closer Look at the Riskiest Subway Stations in NYC

Accident News,Personal Injury News | June 9, 2019

Traveling along the subway is comparable to a double-edged sword, as many New Yorkers will agree. While these massive underground transits can get you from Point A to Point B relatively quickly (if you don’t have to battle a horde of delays), you have to remember that these machines pose just as much a threat to your safety as a bus or a car. A simple slip-and-fall or a sudden trip can take a more dangerous turn if you fall on the tracks, but you also have to consider how these tunnels can harbor sinister criminal activity, as well.

So, which stations in the Big Apple are the most dangerous? Let’s take a closer look and find out.

The Top Five Dangerous Stations

A Closer Look at the Riskiest Subway Stations in NYCIn a study conducted in 2014, the New York Times documented the following junctions as “hot spots” for the highest crime rates in the city:

  1. Broad Channel Station: 38 crimes per 100,000 transits
  2. Broadway Junction: 76 crimes per 100,000 transits
  3. Beach 105 St: 27 crimes per 100,000 transits

Furthermore, the Times reports the following stations as the worst hubs for criminal activity in New York City, combined:

  1. Times Square/Port Authority: 1,791 crimes
  2. 125 St: 1,643 crimes
  3. 14 St-Union Square: 1,564 crimes

The Risks of Subway Traveling

Besides crime rates, subways can also pose a major risk toward human health and wellbeing. According to a report from the MTA, in 2018 alone, about seven people died after walking or riding between subway trains. This is a spike from five fatalities under the same conditions in 2016.

Seeking a Personal Injury Lawyer in New York

Subways might be convenient methods of traveling from one place to another across the jungle of New York City, but these underground tunnels can prove to be extremely hazardous at times, especially when people do not exercise caution. In the blink of an eye, your visit to the subway can turn into a chaotic, catastrophic accident that can inflict moderate to life-threatening injuries and cause tremendous emotional distress.

Although this might be difficult, though, you must remain calm.  With the assistance of a lawyer who is experienced with personal injury cases, you can gather viable resources to create a strong case in court.
