Associate Attorney

Ryan Files is an associate attorney at Gattuso & Ciotoli, PLLC, where he focuses his practice on representing individual and class action plaintiffs in labor and employment matters. In addition, Ryan’s expanded practice includes providing counseling services and representation in areas of education and municipal law, residential real estate transactions, and simple estate planning.

Ryan has successfully served as legal counsel for individuals in both the public and private sectors, as well as public school districts and municipal and educational corporations in New York State. His areas of representation and legal services primarily consist of:

  • Federal and State civil litigation matters involving claims of unlawful workplace discrimination, harassment, and retaliation for engaging in legally protected activities.
  • Individual and class action matters for employer violations under the Fair Labor Standards Act and the New York Labor Law.
  • Administrative proceedings before the New York State Division of Human Rights and the United States Equal Employment Opportunity Commission.
  • Consulting on and negotiating employee severance agreements.
  • Part 83 Moral Character Hearings before the New York State Education Department.
  • Counseling corporate municipal and education clients on matters pertaining to, but not limited to, Freedom of Information Law requests, NYS Open Meetings Law requirements, Disciplinary Hearings and Manifestation Determinations, drafting and filing corporate Articles of Organization, drafting and reviewing organizational by-laws and collective bargaining agreements, drafting and reviewing internal policies and procedures.
  • Conducting internal investigations for complaints of alleged workplace misconduct.
  • Drafting simple wills, health care proxies, and power of attorney forms.
  • Conducting residential real estate transactions for both buyers and sellers.

Ryan has also represented clients in federal court as pro bono counsel via appointment by the United States District Court for the Northern District of New York, and is a member of the Volunteer Lawyers Project of CNY.

Ryan, who currently lives in the Town of Camillus with his wife and daughter, has been a practicing attorney since 2016. Before to joining Gattuso & Ciotoli, Ryan began his legal career as an attorney with the O’Hara, O’Connell & Ciotoli law firm after graduating from Syracuse University College of Law. Ryan’s prior professional experience also includes clerking for Senior U.S. District Hon. Fredrick Scullin Jr. in the United States District Court for the Northern District of New York, interning for the General Counsel office at SRC. Inc., and interning for the City of Rochester Bureau of Communications.
